Saint Siméon Stylite l'ancien a été le premier ascète chrétien à vivre sur une colonne dont il reste des vestiges dans son monastère, près d'Alep en Syrie. Il a été suivi par d'autres ascètes, comme saint Siméon dit le Jeune qui vivait ici à Antioche, également au sommet d'une colonne.
Saint Simeon Stylite the elder was the first Christian ascetic to live on a column of which remains remains in his monastery, near Aleppo in Syria. He was followed by other ascetics, like St. Simeon the Young who lived here in Antioch, also at the top of a column.
